UN launches $6.7 bn global appeal for vulnerable countries
   
The United Nations and its partner agencies have launched a $6.7 billion global appeal to fight against COVID-19.

Initially, the organization had resolved to provide USD 2 billion to vulnerable countries to fight against COVID-19. However, the amount has now increased to $6.7 billion. The scheme is named "Global Human Response Plan".

According to the United Nations, the Coronavirus has affected every country in the world. These will be the poorest affected countries. The worst and devastating effect of this virus will be on the poorest countries. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to these countries.

The funds raised so far have been received from countries like Britain, Germany, European Commission, Japan, Persian Gulf countries and Canada.

Importance

The United Nations has identified evidence of declining incomes, falling food supplies, low jobs, rising prices and lack of food for children and lack of vaccination.

According to the World Food Programme, about 26.5 crore people face famine by the end of the year. Therefore, it is important to increase the funds to run food chains.

Covered Countries

The United Nations had already covered 54 countries. Now, an additional 9 countries have been added. This includes Liberia, Djibouti, Pakistan, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Philippines, Zimbabwe and Togo.
